Flex 2002 News:
New Copayments for Generic and Brand Prescription Drugs
Currently under Merck’s Prescription Drug Program, prescriptions
filled at one of Merck-Medco’s participating pharmacies through Merck-Medco’s
Home Delivery Pharmacy service (by mail or online at http://www.merckmedco.com)
are covered at 100% after a small copayment. This copayment varies by medical
option—$4 under the 90/10, POS, PPO and HMO options and $7 under the 80/20
option—and is waived for all Merck-brand drugs.
Effective January 1,
2002, new prescription drug copayments will apply to all Merck Medical Plan
options. These new copayments—which are summarized below—are designed to:
- Ensure appropriate
employee cost-sharing;
- Recognize the
value of brand drugs—as well as the cost differences between generics
and brands; and
- Encourage employees
to fill and refill prescriptions—particularly maintenance medications
that are used to manage chronic conditions—by mail and online, through
Merck-Medco’s Home Delivery Pharmacy service.
