Flex 2002
News: New Positive Approaches Program Launched for Depression
To further enhance the Merck Medical Plan’s portfolio of
health management and wellness programs, starting in 2002 the Plan will
adopt Merck-Medco’s Positive Approaches Depression Program. This
program is part of Merck Medco’s family of confidential, targeted health
management programs that include Positive Approaches’ modules for
digestive health, asthma/respiratory health, cardiovascular health, diabetes,
multiple sclerosis and hepatitis C.
Like all of Merck-Medco’s
health management programs, the Positive Approaches Depression Program
is designed to help employees with a specific health condition receive
specialized care. This unique new offering is intended to help patients—and
treating physicians—best manage depression symptoms and treatment. Offered
in conjunction with Merck’s employee assistance and managed behavioral
health benefits (provided through ValueOptions), the program provides:
- Support and
education for patients who are being treated for depression—and for
whom antidepressant drug therapy is prescribed;
- Outreach to
those individuals who may be suffering (silently) from depression;
and
- Ongoing physician
interaction and communication.
If you are being treated
for—or are at risk of suffering from—depression, Merck-Medco will contact
you about participating in the Positive Approaches Depression Program.
Keep in mind that participation in this program is voluntary and you can
choose to opt out at any time. Finally, it’s important to understand that
as with any Merck-Medco service or program, information about you and
your participation will be held in the strictest confidence and will not
be shared with anyone at Merck.
